	PRESS NOTE

Subject: Biennial Election to the Legislative Councils of Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh from Graduates' and Teachers' Constituencies -reg.

The term of office of 08 members of the Bihar Legislative Council from 04 Graduates’ and 04 Teachers’ Constituency, 04 member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from 02 Graduates’ and 02 Teachers’ Constituencies, 05 member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 03 Graduates’ and 02 Teachers’ Constituencies and 11 member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 05 Graduates’ and 06 Teachers’ Constituencies are expiring due to retirement of the sitting members as detailed below:-

2. The Commission has decided to conduct biennial election to the Legislative Councils of Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh from Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies from above-mentioned Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies in accordance with the following programme:-

4.	Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures	9th October, 2026 (Friday)
5.	Date of Poll	23rd October, 2026 (Friday)
6.	Hours of Poll	08:00 am- 04:00 pm
7.	Counting of Votes	27th October, 2026 (Tuesday)
8.	Date before which election shall be completed	31st October, 2026 (Saturday)

4. The Model Code of Conduct concerning these elections will come into force with immediate effect in the concerned Constituencies. The details thereof are available on the Commission’s website under the link:
